Purpose and objectives

    The main purpose of the student’s research work at the University is to improve the training level of specialists with higher vocational education by the development of students in learning through the curriculum and in after hours methods and ways and skills in fulfilling of scientific and research, design and other works, development of their creative abilities, independence, initiative in studies and future activities.
The main tasks of the Student’s Research Work:
•    Improvement, coordination and support of student’s research works;
•    Implementation of unity of students  training  and preparation of students to creative and scientific proceedings;
•    Arrangement of conditions for self-actualization of students personality creative potentials;
•     Expansion of mass and improvement of  effectiveness of student’s participation in research activity;
•    Selection of talented youths, who shows interest and desire for the research activity for further training of students in master and postgraduate course, reinforcement of scientific and pedagogical personnel; 
•    Assistance in job placement of KazNTU students, including by involvement of students to the scientific and practical work in the collective.
 The main forms of researches
    The main  forms of researches in the current year was s scientific seminars, conferences, subject contests, republican contest of scientific works, participation in fulfillment of state and contractual researches, patent work. Annually in the Republican competition of research jobs, contests, conferences took parts every forth KazNTU student.
Work direction:
•    Involvement of faculty staff of the University to the dispensation of  research supervisor by research works of students; 
•    Student involvement on researches;
•    Organization and supervision over fulfillment of student’s research works;
•    Organization of scientific activities at the University (competitions, conferences and etc.)
•    Organization of students’ participation in scientific events of different rank, including exit (competitions, conferences etc.);
•       Coordination of departments, university and faculty works on fulfillment of ratings.
Acting student scientific circle
    The scientific circles “Cybernetics”, students programming club, student departments “Society of Petroleum Engineers” and “Society of Exploration Geophysicists”, innovation research students organization functions at the University. Student’s Project – Construction Bureau “Water supply” on direction “Integrated using of water recourses and water supply” is created under the Hydrogeology Department of Geological Exploration Institute. 

 Participation in financing programs
    There are 88 students took part in research works by financing programs in current year, 8 students of them from Geological Exploration Institute, 11 students from the Institute of Oil and Gas, 10 – from the Automation and Telecommunication Institute, 19 students from the Institute of Information Technologies, 6 from the Institute of Metallurgy and Polygraphy, 25 students from the Mining Institute and 4 students from the Natural Humanitarian Institute. 

 Republican competition of student’s researches
Annually in the Republican competition of student’s research works takes part more than 100 works of KazNTU students. Twenty works of them awarded by the Diplomas of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK. In 2008 /2009 academic year at the University organized and held the Republican competition of students on fundamental specialties, where presented 160 works, 40 works from our university and others from different universities of Kazakhstan. 
   By section “Geological sciences” presented 40 works. 
   By section “Geodesy and cartography” presented 6 works.
   By section “Metallurgy, material science and polygraphy” - 21 works.
   By section “Automation and control” – 24 works.
   By section “Information systems” – 33 works.
   By section “Computer science” – 34 works.
   By section “Applied physics” – 3 works.
   KazNTU students’ 25 works had awarded by the diplomas of the MES RK by results of given competition. 

     Diploma projects of graduating students –architects from the Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering won three diplomas of First Class and two diplomas of Second Class in the exhibition-contest “City & Design” from Designer Union of Kazakhstan. 
    In the contest “Kazakhstan Architecture Projects”, organized by Kazakhstan Youth Congress took part 11 projects from Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, where A.Khodzhikov’s and V.Yaskevich’s  works awarded the Prize and presented the notebook and diploma, M.Khokhlov’s work won second place and presented the diploma and video cassette recorder. And other 9 authors of project presented letter of commendations.

“Zhas talap” competition
    According to the plan of jubilee arrangements has held the “Zhas talap” competition for students and young scientists, dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of KazNTU after K.I.Satpaev
The competition was held on 3 categories: “The best invention”, “The best proceeding of young scientists”, and “The best scientific work of the student”.
      In the nomination “The best scientific work of the student” took part 5 works. Forth course students from Department of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications of the Institute of Automation and Telecommunication awarded by the diploma and 50,000 tenge cash prize - Mendakulov Zhasulan and Raimkulov Azat for their works “The prospects of adoption of digital TV in Kazakhstan”.

Patent - information researches
    The important component of students’ research works is a patent-information research, which permits to familiarize with an advanced theories and technologies and estimate an actuality and novelty of their researches, so in 2008-2009 academic year in this direction has obtained 8 patents with students participation and hand in 2 applications:
5 patents and 2 applications are obtained by Electroenergetics and Automation of Technological Complexes Department of the Institute of Automatics and Telecommunications; 
1 patent obtained by the Department of Machinery and Equipment of Oil and Gas Industry of the Institute of Oil and Gas;
1 patent by the Department of Hoisting and Transport Machinery and Hydraulics of Mechanical Engineering Institute;
1 patent obtained by Metallurgical Machinery and Equipments Department of the Institute of Metallurgy and Polygraphy.

Students’ conferences
    An important stage of students’ research works is a holding of annual scientific and technical conference. In April, 2009 held the students research conferences dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of University. There were listened more than 600 student’s reports by 10 institutes. The best reports were awarded by charters and recommended to the republican contest for the next year. Also the student’s best reports had prepared to the publication in the report collections of students’ works.
 The number of students accepted participation in the students’ conferences and the number of applications for publication in the collection of reports of students' works are presented below by institution:

  International Youth Oil and Gas Forum  
    In April 18-19, 2009 year at the university took place the VI International Youth Oil and Gas Forum, dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Kazakh National Technical University after K.I.Satpaev and 110 Anniversary of Academician K.I.Satpaev.   Holding of forums for the student’s department of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers was traditional. In the frame of the forum held the next events:  
- Presentation from the leading specialists of company;
- Student research conference;
- Round table;
- Republican tournament of intellectual games “Oil Games”;
 - Trainings and seminars;  
- Role play.

D.Stelling – Deputy Managing Director of the European Unit in Chevron Company), D.Wohlschlege (Project Manager of British Gas – group), D.McCalvy (Director of Baker Hughes in Kazakhstan), M.Sullivan – Chairman of the Council SPE International, Tulegenov – Chairman of Almaty SPE professional section are took part in the works of forum. In the process of forum work went through the singing of Memorandum on Agreement in the field of specialist training on oil and gas between KazNTU and “Baker Hughes”.  

Republican student’s competition on speciality groups
 On March 13-14, 2009 year our university held the II tour of the Republican students competition on speciality groups:  
I.    Automation and Control, Information Systems, Computing and software engineering;
II.    Geology and exploration of mineral deposits, Geodesy and Cartography, Oil and Gas business;
III.    Metallurgy, Material science and technology of new materials, and also by speciality:  Applied physics.
 In the II tour of Republican competition took part 13 teams in team championship and in an individual championship – 47 students from 8 High Schools of Kazakhstan. Students from Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas, D.Serikbaev East Kazakhstan State Technical University, Yesenov Caspian State University, T.Tynyshpaev Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications, A.Baytursynov Kostanay State University, Yasavi International Kazakh –Turkish University, Shakarim Semipalatinsk State University and Kazakh National Technical University after K.I.Satpaev took part in the competition.  KazNTU students in the team championship awarded prize-winning places:  
Diploma of 1 degree and souvenirs – 4 teams;
Diploma of 2 degree – 2 teams;
Diploma of 3 degree – 2 teams.
In an individual championship:
Diploma of 1 degree – 12 students;
Diploma of 2 degree – 3 students;
Diploma of 3degree – 3 students.

Participation in the II tour of the Republican student’s competition by speciality groups of other High schools  
In addition, student’s team from our university had won prize-winning places, taking part in the republican competition:
     • In Karaganda State Technical University by specialities:
050732 – “Standardization, metrology and certification” – 1place;
050707 – “Mining engineering” – 1place;
050731- “Life safety and environment protection” – 3 places;
• In Dulaty Taraz State University by speciality “Water recourses and water supply” awarded diploma of 3 degree;
• In Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communication by speciality:
050713 – Transport, transport engineering” awarded the diploma of 3 degree.
    Our university awarded the diploma of 3 degree in the II Republican Students Ecological competition (Semipalatinsk State Pedagogical Institute).   

 Republican Competition “INFORM-2009”

   In the frame of scale events “Informatics Week in Almaty” was organized the Republican Competition “INFORM -2009” by the Department of Software System and Network of the Institute of Information Technologies jointly with the Kazakh British Technical University.
On March 13-14 of current year held the first tour of this competition in KazNTU after K.I.Satpaev. In the competition took part 52 teams from Kirgizia, Almaty, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Uralsk, Shymkent and other cities. Kirgizia – Russian Slavic University from Kirgizia won the Prize, KazNTU and AIE&C won the first place, KazNPU after Abay – 2 places, and the 3 place –Almaty Institute of Energetic and Communication.  Team winners were awarded by valuable prize and diplomas.  
 In 2008- 2009 academic year KazNTU students successfully took part in the international and republican events:      
In an annual quarterfinal round of World Cup programming among student teams participated 11 teams from the Institute of Information Technology of KazNTU after K.I. Satpaev, four teams of them were in the semifinal round, which held in St. Petersburg (Russia), Barnaul (Russia),  Batumi (Georgia) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
   Forth course students from Oil and Gas Institute Kadylbekov Ye. and A. Demianov participated in the Russian Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition 2008 SPE “Technology of the present and future”.  Yermek Kadylbekov awarded for the best presentation of student project at the seminar “The role of young specialists in the petroleum industry” organized by the Russian Branch of SPE. (October 30, 2008, Moscow)
   Students D.Dostanov and D.Adilkhanov from the Institute of Automation and Telecommunication won the second place in the first republican competition on energy saving and alternative sources of energy in the national contest of projects on among students, young professionals and scientists, organized by the Union of Power Engineers and Chevron Munaigas Inc..
Students of the Institute of Automation and Telecommunication takes part in:
-    The International competition of French firm “Isover - Saint-Gobain Company” for Project development by theme: “Multi- comfort house”. The work of Turekulova Alina by theme “Building for Isover in Kazakhstan” took the second place, and received a cash prize and the right to represent KazNTU in the International stage in Ljubljana city (Slovenia) on 22-24 April, 2009.
-    The works of the graduating students has awarded the Diploma of 1degree (Ausalikova Dana) and three diplomas of 2 degree (Yaskevich Vladimir, Khodzhikov Anton, Nizamutdinova Emily) in the competition of graduation projects of students-architects, organized by Inter-regional non-government organization in Saratov city (Russia).  
-     Student of 4th course of the Institute of Economics and Business M.Tairova has awarded a diploma of 1 degree in the competition on insurance among university students in Kazakhstan by the insurance company “Eurasia”.  
The students-achievers, who has been actively took part in the research jobs won the scholarship from Chevron Company.
