The International postgraduate institute “Excellence Polytech”

     The International postgraduate institute “Excellence Polytech” is established in 9th of December, 2008 and is a break innovation project of Kazakh national technical university named after K.I.Satbayev at Rector Zh.M.Adilov’s supporting, who assigns the politics, activity and priority of development.

     Mission of IPI “Excellence PolyTech”: The promotion to the competitiveness of the Economy and Industry of Kazakhstan in the international space and improve the welfare of Kazakhstan people through the formation of a new generation of high intellectual personnel.


  • The formation and development of major educational and research center for training of highly qualified personnel for the industrial areas, aimed at the exclusion of intellectual and technological dependence in the international space.


  • Ensuring of effective management and coordination of training of highly qualified personnel and the formation of competencies for professional graduates in the international environment.

     Expected results

  • Satisfaction of needs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the competitive highly qualified personnel for the industrial areas of Kazakhstan.

International educational programs

     International Program “Double diploma education” are carried out in accordance with intergovernmental agreements in the frame of the University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Declaration on Cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of Education and Science, as well as memoranda with leading foreign universities of USA, France, Italy, Germany, Russia on 39 Master and 20 PhD programs.

     In the present Master and PhD students and teachers have a wide range of new partners (142 University) for the implementation of joint educational programs, internships and training in all areas and specialties.

     IPI «Excellence PolyTech» has established stable contacts to provide financial support of mobility with several international organizations, which award scholarships and grants for the training and education, such as the DAAD, DFG, Tempus, Erasmus Mundus.

     Master students were awarded grants from international organizations (DAAD Certificate of funding training in Germany) and the Fellowships of Chevron Company.

     In the frame of three "Tempus" projects, won by KazNTU a budget for the training of master students is also planning in the field of "Power and Electrical Engineering (Institute of Automation and Telecommunications, Department of Electricity and automation systems), “Chemical Engineering” (O&G Institute, Department of Chemical Engineering of oil, gas and polymer refining), as well as “Water resources Management" (Institute of Geological exploration, Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, IPI «Excellence PolyTech»).

     In the frame of statistics (January 1, 2010) 12 foreign masters and PhD students are trained at the University from two countries: Egypt and China.

     Masters and PhD students have the opportunity to continue their studies with obtaining double degree diploma in 15 foreign universities in the University Partnership Program "UPP Universities" sponsored by Chevron Company.

     In accordance with the signed Memorandum of Kazakh-French partnership on the Creation of scientific and educational center in the area of geo-power in the Republic of Kazakhstan (24.06.2010) and the Cooperation Agreement between the Nancy-University (France) and KazNTU named after K.I.Satbayev (21.05.2008), the educational program "Two diploma education" is implemented in the University.

     In the 2009/10 academic year, six university graduates were enrolled to Nancy-University (France) by the formula 0 kaz+2 French (2 years Nancy), in the current academic year 1 master student in the field of 6M070800- “Oil and gas” were enrolled in the study at the University of Nancy according to the formula 1kaz + 1 French (the first year at KazNTU and second year at University of Nancy ) and six graduates in the field of 6M070800-“Oil and gas”, 6M070600 – “Geology and Survey”, 6M074700 – “Geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration” are studying in KazNTU by the formula 2kaz + 0 French (two years in KazNTU).

     In 2009/2010 academic year 1 master student in the field of “Chemical Technology of Organic Compounds” had a research internship at the Max-Planck Institute under grant DAAD German Academic Exchange Service where she made her master thesis.

     In the 2009/10 academic year, two PhD students of KazNTU in the field of 6D070900 – “Metallurgy” has passed a comprehensive final exam and defended their doctoral dissertations at Colorado School of Mines (USA) and received two diplomas of Colorado School of Mines and KazNTU.

     Currently, two PhD students in the field of 6D070800-“Oil and Gas " finish their doctoral dissertation at the University of Nancy and 1 master student is enrolled in the study at Regensburg University (Germany).

     Guest professors agree to be co-supervisors of our doctoral students.

     In general, in the frame of international educational programs with partner universities all PhD students (58 students) of KazNTU go abroad to have research internship at highly ranked universities.

Daulet Serikbay

      Daulet Serikbay is a graduate of Indiana University (with an honors degree of BSc in Public Affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs) and Oxford University (MPP from the Blavatnik School of Government) and double awardee of the Bolashak Presidential International scholarship of Kazakhstan.

     Prior to taking up the Director's position at the International Postgraduate Institute “Excellence PolyTech” of the Kazakh National Research Technical University, Daulet acquired his diverse experience as the Head of the Science and Innovation Sector at the KBTU Academy, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of KBTU, national consultant of the international consulting company Oxford Policy Management Ltd, analyst at JSC "Center for International Programs" of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, head of Education Management Research Department at JSC “Information-Analytic Center” of the Ministry of Education and Science and national project coordinator at the German development agency GIZ GmbH in Kazakhstan.

    Daulet has earned professional development certificates from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Saïd Business School at Oxford University, Yonsei University (Korea) and MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab, and was research fellow at the Institute of Energy and Environment at the University of São Paulo (Brazil).

    Daulet speaks Kazakh, English, Russian, French and German.
